The objective of Quarth is to prevent blocks from filling up the entire screen by creating complete shapes using tetrominoes or colored squares. The tetrominoes always appear one by one and fall from the top, while the colored squares are randomly placed on the screen at the start of each level.

Players control a small spaceship that is positioned at the bottom of the screen, which can move left or right and fire a laser beam vertically upwards. The spaceship can also transform tetrominoes or colored squares into solid blocks by firing at them, creating gaps that can be used to form more complete shapes.

The shapes that can be formed in Quarth include squares, rectangles, L-shapes, and inverted L-shapes. When a complete shape is formed, it disappears, and the blocks above it shift downwards, allowing the player to free up more space on the screen.

The game can be played in two modes: Normal mode and Time Attack mode. In Normal mode, the goal is to complete a certain number of levels, each with increasing difficulty, without letting the blocks reach the top of the screen. In Time Attack mode, players have a limited amount of time to complete as many levels as possible, with the difficulty increasing as they progress.
